Vol. 37 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loan (South Sligo).

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state what progress has been made with respect to the payment of the Dáil Loan (Internal), 1919-1920, in the former Parliamentary constituency of South Sligo, and if he can state when the claims at present outstanding will be dealt with.

Considerable progress has been made with regard to the repayment of sums subscribed to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan, 1919-20, in the former Parliamentary constituency of South Sligo. A large number of names have been added to the Register of Subscribers in the past twelve months and repayment has been authorised in favour of all the subscribers included therein who applied within the prescribed period and furnished satisfactory evidence in support of their claims.

With regard to the second part of the question the position is that a number of lists have been returned to collectors for explanations as to discrepancies and information as to the manner in which the amounts which they represent were disposed of. There are also under consideration a number of applications from individuals whose names are not included in any list and who have so far failed to furnish satisfactory evidence in support of their claims. The rate of progress in disposing of these lists and individual applications must necessarily depend upon the individuals concerned.

Will the Minister state what he means by "considerable progress"; have half the claims or two-thirds of the claims been dealt with?

Names representing more than half the amount received from Sligo have been entered upon the Register.
