Vol. 50 No. 17

Late Sitting.

I move: That the House sit to-day until the Supplementary Estimates are completed and then adjourn until 3 p.m. on Tuesday next, the 6th March. I propose that the public business be not interrupted at 12 o'clock.

I am opposing the late sitting.

I move: That the Dáil sit later than 2.30 p.m. to-day and that the motion for the adjournment be taken not later than 12 o'clock midnight to-night.

This motion has been moved without notice. No previous intimation of it has been given to Deputies. This proposal will cause great inconvenience to Deputies who attend here from all parts of the country and who were unaware that it was to be moved this morning. There have not been many meetings of the Dáil since its reassembly this year. There have been long adjournments. The House has met to consider the business on the Order Paper with no previous intimation that an unreasonable demand was going to be made on members' time. If we are to be brought here to consider business which the Government is not in a position to put before the House, and if the House is to be trifled with in this way with regard to business which is unprepared, I think it is unreasonable to expect people to sit here until 12 o'clock midnight to-night in the circumstances.

Does the Deputy challenge a division?
