asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state for the last year for which the information is available, (1) the gross output of the fisheries in the Saorstát, indicating (a) the value of fresh fish and shell-fish landed in Saorstát ports, and (b) the value of the catches of inland fish, and (2) the value of the nett output of these fisheries.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saorstát Fisheries.
Owing to the failure of the herring fishing during the past few years the value of landings of sea-fish on our coast has seriously declined, the figures for the year 1934 being: Wet fish, £128,450, and shell-fish, £36,111. The latest returns available in respect of inland fisheries are those furnished by licence-holders for the year 1933, which are as follow:—Salmon, £157,113; sea-trout, £1,937, and eels, £2,942. No record is kept of the gross as distinguished from the nett output of these fisheries.
Will the Minister say if the figures he has quoted are gross or nett figures?
Dr. Ryan
They are gross.
