Vol. 66 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Power Station Employees.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received representations on behalf of civilian employees employed at the Power Station, Curragh Camp, who have recently been dismissed in consequence of the transfer of the lighting of the Curragh Camp to the Electricity Supply Board, and whether, in view of the long service of these former, and the hardship which their dismissal has caused, he will give favourable consideration to the question of having suitable alternative employment provided for them by the Department of Defence and the Electricity Supply Board.

Representations have been received on behalf of civilian employees whose services were terminated in consequence of the transfer of the lighting of the Curragh Camp to the Electricity Supply Board. It is regretted that there is no suitable alternative employment in the Department which could be offered to these men.

Can the Minister say whether he can use his good offices to ensure, now that the Electricity Supply Board is supplying current to the camp, that these employees will be taken over by the Electricity Supply Board?

We have taken the matter up to see whether they could be given alternative employment.
