Vol. 86 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Sergeant's Pension.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Sergeant J. O'Neill, 60784, 3rd Motor Squadron, Cavalry Corps, Fermoy, has been discharged from the Army on medical grounds after 18 years' service, and whether in view of the fact that Sergeant O'Neill has a wife and five children dependent upon him, the Minister will indicate whether it is proposed to award a pension to him; and, if so, what pension.

I am aware that Sergeant O'Neill has been discharged from the Forces on medical grounds. The question of granting him a pension under the provisions of the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme, 1937, is under consideration, and he will be notified of the result at the earliest possible date.

Can the Minister say if this man is likely to get a pension?
