Vol. 87 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wool Price.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the reduced price offered for this year's wool clip, he will consider calling a conference of the various interests involved with a view to arranging that a more equitable price be paid to producers.

I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by calling a conference as suggested by the Deputy. It is too early in the season to form an opinion regarding prices for the 1942 wool clip, but the information available in my Department indicates that prices being realised by farmers compare favourably on the whole with the average prices realised in the corresponding period for the 1941 clip.

Does the Minister say that it is too early in the season to form any opinion about prices?

Is the Minister aware that the price for this year's wool clip is 2d. a lb. less than last year's price——

I should say that that is not true.

——and that it is not fair to producers? That is a fact, and Deputies here know it to be the fact. Can the Minister not do something about that, and will he try to ensure that wool producers will get last year's price for their clip?

Yes, they are getting it.

They are not getting last year's price for their clip.
