Vol. 105 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Withdrawals from Dollar Pool.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total sum drawn from the dollar pool in each of the years 1940 to 1946, inclusive, and in each month in 1947.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, subject to the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Estimated amount (gross) of payments to U.S.A. and Canada for all purposes in 1940-47 in respect of which facilities were provided in accordance with the "Dollar Pool" arrangements:—

In connection with that tabular statement, can the Minister say whether the amount of dollars contributed by the Irish Government to the pool in each of those years was greater or less than the amount of dollars drawn from the pool on Irish accounts?

That is a separate question.

Would the Deputy await the reply?

If the Minister does not find himself in a position to answer now, it can be asked again.

The Deputy's supplementary would take us not only into our dollar earnings but the amount of exports that we send to England, which otherwise they would have to pay for in dollars.

I was only asking about dollar earnings. Did they give us more dollars than we paid in?

Yes they did.

Mr. Ziff notwithstanding.
