Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demolition of Collinstown Houses.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that occupiers of dwelling-houses near Collinstown aerodrome have received notice of his Department's intention to acquire and demolish these houses and adjoining outoffices for the purpose of enlarging the airport, and whether, in view of the shortage of housing accommodation and the hardships which such action would impose upon farmers in this area, he will abandon the proposed acquisition of the land and buildings concerned.

Lands adjoining the Dublin Airport, Collinstown, are being acquired to provide for the extension and development of the Airport. The houses on these lands are also being acquired and any house which is an obstruction to air operations will have to be demolished. No house will be demolished where that course can be avoided, but I regret that the acquisition contemplated cannot be abandoned as the Deputy requests.

Does the Minister not consider that the airport is large enough already?

I am informed that it is not.
