Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blue Lagoon Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he can state the position concerning the proposed Blue Lagoon scheme and the development of the Bull Island; how long the proposed scheme will take and when work on it is likely to commence.

Mr. Murphy

In a report from the special consultant employed by the Dublin Corporation to examine the Blue Lagoon project, certain important technical issues were raised and the corporation has been requested to have these matters further examined. The examination involves experiments over a period of years and it, therefore, follows that the scheme or such sections of it as may eventually be found practicable can not be undertaken for a considerable time. No definite information can, therefore, be given at this stage as to when the scheme or any section of it is likely to be undertaken, or as to the period within which it would be completed.

Preliminary plans for the proposed development of North Bull Island were approved by the Department on 20th September last. Detailed plans have not yet been submitted by the corporation.
