Vol. 111 No. 4

Written Answers to Questions. - Tourist Board Hotels.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total cost (including furnishing and equipping) of each of the following hotels belonging to the Irish Tourist Board (1) Courtown, (2) Ballinahinch, (3) Lisdoonvarna, (4) Portmarnock, (5) Termonfeckin, (6) Killarney; further, if he will state the net profit or loss (other than interest on capital) in respect of each such hotel for the last financial year for which such figures are available.

Particulars of the total cost including acquisition, furnishing and equipping of each of the hotels belonging to the Irish Tourist Board are as follows:—

(1)

Courtown

£29,212

(2)

Ballinahinch

£51,689

(3)

Lisdoonvarna

£40,836

(4)

Portmarnock

£51,265

(5)

Termonfeckin

£42,552

A sum of £4,128 was paid for the Royal Victoria Hotel at Killarney to cover premises and lands, but the Board does not operate a hotel there. This property was bought with a view to providing hotel and sports pavilion facilities in connection with the golf club, but estimated costs have been so high that the scheme is in abeyance.

I am not at present in a position to give the information sought in the second part of the Question, but I am making inquiries and will communicate the result to the Deputy as soon as possible.
