asked the Minister for Local Government if he will introduce proposals for legislation to increase the pensions of ex-officials of poor law unions and rural district councils who were compulsorily retired some 25 years ago, so as to make these pensions proportionate to the increased cost of living obtaining to-day.

Mr. Murphy
As indicated in my reply to a question put down by Deputy Larkin on the 14th April last, any proposal for reviewing the pensions of officers and servants who retired from the service of local authorities before 1st July, 1940, would have to be examined in relation to the adjustment of the pensions of superannuated employees of other public authorities, including the State. The question of instituting a comprehensive review of this kind is at present under consideration by the Departments concerned.
