Vol. 120 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athenry Housing Needs.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is an urgent need for houses in the town of Athenry, and if he will state what steps are being taken to provide a housing scheme in that area.

Tenders for the erection of ten houses in Athenry have been received and are the subject of correspondence with the Galway County Council. Plans for a further group of ten houses have been prepared by the council and submitted for approval. Decisions in regard to these plans will be conveyed to the council at an early date.

I understand that the council propose to develop sites for a further six houses, and that the total of 26 houses proposed will satisfy the needs of the town.
