Vol. 121 No. 16

Questions— Oral Answers. - Crooksling Sanatorium.

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate the working hours and the rates of remuneration payable to dairy workers at Crooksling Sanatorium, County Dublin, and further, if he is aware of any differentiation in the rates of remuneration payable to members of the agricultural staff, if he will indicate the amount and the reason for such differentiation.

The dairy workers (milkers) employed at Crooksling Sanatorium are paid £4 9s. 0d. per week for a working week which averages 58¾ hours. The agricultural labourers employed at the sanatorium work a 54-hour week and are in receipt of £3 14s. 0d. per week.

As regards the differentiation to which the Deputy refers, it is generally accepted that the rates paid to milkers are higher than those paid to agricultural workers. A further reason for the differentiation at Crooksling Sanatorium is that the milkers work a longer week than the agricultural workers.
