Vol. 122 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if his statement at Strokestown on Sunday, June 25th, 1950, as reported in the public Press is correct, i.e., that 2,860,000 acres of land have been acquired by the Land Commission since February 1st, 1949, and if so, if he will state whether the land was acquired under the terms of the Land Act, 1950, or under those of previous land legislation, how much of it was purchased for cash in the open market and what was the total cost of the 2,860,000 acres acquired.

I quoted the figure of 2,860 acres as the area acquired in County Roscommon alone during the two years ended 31st March, 1950.

The area is 2,860 acres?

Yes, for the County Roscommon.

Then there is no truth in the statement that 2,860,000 acres were acquired? Will the Minister correct that statement in the newspapers?

I never made the statement. It is not my business to tell newspapers what to do.
