Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Birth Certificates.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the delay in issuing birth certificates by the registrar of the County Dublin area which results in loss of business to insurance workers and if he will state the amount of arrears in the issue of certificates and the cause of the holdup in their issue.

I am aware that the completion of arrangements for the appointment of a new interim superintendent registrar of births, deaths and marriages for the Balrothery and Rathdown public assistance districts resulted in some unavoidable delay in the issue of certificates. The appointment has now been made and all arrears of certificates are expected to be cleared by the end of the present week. The arrears amounted to approximately 400 certificates, 200 of which have already been dealt with.
