asked the Minister for Social Welfare when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation to amend the Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Act, 1942, so as to provide higher rates of benefits for claimants.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermittent Unemployment.
Proposals to provide higher rates of supplementary benefit to persons insured under the Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Act, 1942, have been discussed between officers of my Department and representatives of employers and workers in the building trade. Before proceeding further in the matter I am awaiting the views on these proposals of one of the bodies representing the workers' interests. I might, perhaps, mention that there is provision in the Act by which contribution or benefit rates may be changed without the necessity of fresh legislation.
