Vol. 134 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Meals Act.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing proposals for legislation amending the Schedule to the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Act, 1930, in order to include the Rosgoill Gaeltacht, County Donegal.

I am not prepared at present to introduce legislation for the purpose referred to by the Deputy.

When a suitable opportunity for an extension of the scope of the Acts arises, consideration will be given to the inclusion of the Rosgoill peninsula.

Does the Minister think that it is unfair to have certain Fior-Gaeltacht schools benefiting from the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Act, 1930, while other Fior-Gaeltacht schools, like those situated in the Rosgoill Gaeltacht area and the Glenvar Gaeltacht area, do not benefit from the Act? It would be necessary, I think to amend the Schedule to the Act to include these particular schools.

It may be possible to take an early opportunity to amend the Act.
