Vol. 134 No. 11

Private Notice Question. - Newspaper Report on Landings of Fish.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his attention has been directed to the statement in a Dublin morning newspaper of 12th November that landings of herrings at Killybegs, County Donegal, have been abnormal and that the price has consequently been depressed; whether he is aware that this is gravely misleading to fishermen on all coasts and is calculated artificially to depress the price of fish and is wholly unjustified by the facts and, if so, whether he will take immediate steps to repudiate the statement.

My information confirms that the statement referred to was not in accordance with the facts and I am asking the newspaper concerned to publish a correction.

I am obliged to the Parliamentary Secretary.

Even the Irish Press is being reformed by North-West Dublin.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary be in a position to state whether the misleading and damaging report concerned was written by a staff reporter of the Irish Press or by some local person in Killybegs?

It was the Irish Press—— Truth in the News.

The information came from a resident of Killybegs.
