Vol. 134 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Undeveloped Areas Act.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) the number of proposals made to An Foras Tionscail for aid in the establishment of suitable industries in South Kerry under the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952; (2) the number of such proposals, if any, likely to be successfully carried through, and (3) the general types of such industries for which proposals have been made.

I would refer the Deputy to replies which were given on the 2nd April and 21st May to similar questions concerning the administration of the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952.

Is the Minister really responsible in any way as regards the setting up of schemes under the Undeveloped Areas Act to establish industries in the undeveloped areas?

I have no responsibility in the matter.

Who has the responsibility, would the Minister tell me?

The board set up under the Act, Foras Tionscail.

Surely when money is allocated, the Minister must also be responsible in some way.

The board was set up by the Dáil as an independent authority.
