Vol. 168 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Treatment of Post Office Employees: Capitation Fees.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the capitation fee payable to medical officers for medical treatment in respect of Post Office employees, and the nature of the services provided by the medical officers.

The fee payable in respect of each Post Office employee whose name appears on a Post Office Medical Officer's capitation list is 20/- a year if the medical officer attends staff employed at a head office or 22/6 a year if the medical officer attends staff employed at rural sub-offices only.

Medical officers give Post Office employees whose names are on their capitation list the type of service which general practitioners give their patients in the course of ordinary practice. They supply them with necessary drugs and medicines but are not generally required to visit a patient unless the patient is too ill to visit them.
