asked the Taoiseach if he will state the average number in insurable employment for each quarter since March, 1957, up to September, 1958, computed in the same manner as on page 14 of Economic Statistics.

The average number of persons in insurable employment, based on the sales of Insurance Stamps, for each quarter since March, 1957, is set out in the following table. Owing to the distortion caused by the exchange of insurance cards for males in the first quarter of each calendar year, the average number, based on the number of stamps sold, is higher than it should be in that quarter and correspondingly lower in some or all of the other three quarters.
