Vol. 181 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Average Weekly Exchequer Expenditure.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if he will explain the wide discrepancy between the average weekly Exchequer expenditure of £5,074,000 in March, 1959, and £2,644,000 in March, 1960.

The discrepancy to which the Deputy referred relates to the data given for Item 37 of Economic Series in the stencilled issue for April, 1960, and was caused by the fact that, owing to the effort made to achieve early publication, the Exchequer expenditure between March 26th and March 31st, 1960, was not taken into account in compiling the March, 1960, figure.

The average weekly Exchequer expenditure of £5,074,000 for March, 1959, is based on the total expenditure on Central Fund and Supply Services between February 21st and March 31st, 1959. The average weekly Exchequer expenditure of £2,644,000 for March, 1960, is based on the total expenditure between February 20th and March 26th, 1960. The average weekly Exchequer expenditure between February 20th and March 31st, 1960, was £5,573,000.
