asked the Minister for Transport and Power the amount of capital employed in the State-sponsored companies under his control; and the amount of interest paid in 1966 in respect of that capital.

(i) Share capital refers to share capital both subscribed by the Exchequer and by the public.

(ii) Loan capital refers to capital from all sources, including borrowings from sources other than the Exchequer and the figures of interest include interest on such borrowings.

(iii) No adjustments have been made in the figures for accumulated reserves or losses.

(iv) The British and Irish Steampacket Co. Ltd. was acquired from Coast Lines Ltd. at a cost of £3,606,922. The nominal share capital of the Company is £1,600,000.

(v) Óstlanna Iompair Éireann is a wholly owned subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann which provides all its capital and to which interest payments are made.
