Vol. 235 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Regionalisation of Hospitals.

23.

asked the Minister for Health when the regionalisation of hospitals will be proceded with.

In accordance with the White Paper on the Health Services and their Further Development, it is proposed to provide for a regional form of administration for hospital and other health services in the forthcoming health legislation.

As the House has already been informed, I have set up a consultative council to examine the position in regard to general hospital services and to report in outline on the future organisation, extent and location of these services. Details of the future pattern of regional administration will not be determined until this body has reported. I expect its report in about a month.

Has a draft report been submitted to some of the officials of the local authorities setting out the suggested regionalisation?

I have no information to confirm or deny that.

Would the Minister ask his colleague to confirm or deny it to me?

I shall do that.
