Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Transport Facilities.

33.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in the case of a person drawing a contributory old age pension, he will allow that person's wife to avail of free transport facilities even if she is less than 70 years of age.

The scheme of free travel administered by my Department was devised primarily for persons aged 70 and over in respect of whom social welfare pensions are being paid and the adult dependants aged 70 and over of old age (contributory) pensioners were included in the scheme for this reason. I do not propose to extend it to those under the age of 70.
