Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liability of Insurance Companies.

151.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what steps, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that insurance companies accept liability in full for the sum or sums assured and are not allowed to escape responsibility by pleading a forced arbitration clause.

While I could not accept the particular line of action suggested by the Deputy, I have referred the matter to the Committee of Inquiry into the Insurance Industry, and have asked them to consider whether any change is called for in the existing procedure governing the fixing of sums assured under fire insurance policies.
