Vol. 261 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Rules.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any consideration is being given to the plight of couples with one child who, under Dublin Corporation rules, are offered no accommodation at present.

I would refer the Deputy to my speech of last Tuesday on the introduction of the Estimate for my Department, especially the section dealing with accommodation for small families, in which I gave an up-to-date report on my efforts to have special housing provision made for such families.

Might I suggest to the Minister that another way of dealing with this problem would be to give credit to certain families for the length of time they have been on the housing list and to apply a system of points?

This was one of the reasons why I asked Dublin Corporation, in particular, to make special provision for small families. I was concerned because so many people had been left so long on the housing list without being housed. Special steps are being taken. I dealt with this matter in great detail in my Estimate speech.
