Vol. 262 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Manufacturing Companies.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) the number of foreign manufacturing companies established in Ireland since 1966, (b) the total amount of financial aid given to these companies by way of grants and/or loans, (c) the total investment in Ireland by these companies from their own resources and (d) the total employment provided by these companies.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that between 1st January, 1966, and 31st March, 1972, there were established in this country 155 foreign manufacturing firms for which industrial grants totalling almost £42.5 million were approved. By 31st March, 1972, over £30 million had been paid on foot of these approvals and the authority estimates that investment by the firms from their own resources was £44.5 million. The 155 projects assisted are estimated at full production to involve investment by the firms from their own resources of £62 million and an employment of 20,500.

Was that investment by way of capital?
