Vol. 270 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Books Issue.

31.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the extreme hardship caused to many old age pensioners who have been awaiting the issue of new pension books since 1st January, 1974; and if he will take immediate steps to rectify the position.

I am not aware that many old age pensioners have been awaiting the issue of new pension books since 1st January, 1974. Pension books in the case of old age non-contributory pensioners were due for renewal on 28th December, 1973, and books for old age contributory pensioners were due for renewal on 3rd January, 1974. All renewal books had been issued by my Department by 18th December, 1973, and were in local post offices shortly after that date. If, however, the Deputy has in mind any cases in which old age pensioners have not received their pension books and supplies me with particulars, I will have the matter investigated immediately.
