Vol. 271 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Engineering Section Post.

21.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the circumstances under which a person in County Meath (name supplied) who had been employed in a factory for a number of years, filled a position in the engineering section of his Department without signing at the labour exchange.

There are no such circumstances.

Does a person not have to be registered in the labour exchange for employment before he is taken on by the Minister's Department?

How was it that this man worked in a factory for a long number of years up to a Friday and on the next day he was taken on by the Minister's Department?

You started that yourselves.

(Interruptions.)

They always had to sign on.

The person concerned was nominated by the employment exchange.

Question No. 22.

How could he be nominated unless he had been signing on at the exchange?

He was registered at the employment exchange.

(Interruptions.)

Is there any reason why he should not be nominated? The applicant was nominated by the employment exchange.

Question No. 22 has been called.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.
