Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Industries.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the proposals the IDA have for the establishment of new industries in County Monaghan.

I have been informed that over the past 18 months, the Industrial Development Authority approved new industries and expansions of existing industry in County Monaghan which are expected to provide 950 extra jobs at full production. Included are a major new industry scheduled to start production in Castleblayney in January, a new industry which recently started in the advance factory in Monaghan town and a major expansion of a food industry in Clones.

An advance factory of over 10,000 square feet will be built in Carrickmacross as soon as a suitable site has been acquired.

In addition, land for industry is being sought actively in Ballybay and Clones by the IDA in consultation with the local authority

Is the Minister not aware that the unemployment figure in Monaghan has increased by hundreds in the last few months and that additional financial assistance is required in those Border areas? At present it would certainly be required following Deputy Thornley's outburst in the European Parliament——

The Deputy cannot go ahead on that line.

——when everybody is blowing everybody's head off. In the context of that outburst by Deputy Thornley would he not think——

The Deputy may not pursue that line.
