Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin School.

76.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the need for a new school for second-level students in the Dalkey/Killiney area, County Dublin; and, if it is his intention to provide such a school, where he intends to locate it.

Mr. R. Burke

The Dublin advisory council on second-level school accommodation requirements is at present investigating the future needs of the areas of Dún Laoghaire, Dalkey, Sallynoggin, Cabinteely and Ballybrack and will make a recommendation to me in due course in this matter. A decision in relation to the question of the provision of a new school will be made without avoidable delay after receipt of the recommendation from the advisory council.

Can the Minister say when this Dublin advisory council will report to him? Has he put a time limit on the production of the report? Is it hoped that the report will be produced within a year, or six months, or three months?

Mr. R. Burke

I cannot say when it will be produced. There is no unavoidable delay in these matters. We keep after them and they are not usually dilatory in supplying these reports.

I appreciate that they are not dilatory. In view of the urgency of the problem, can the Minister say when the Dublin advisory council will produce this report to him?

Mr. R. Burke

Within a matter of months, I should imagine.

Is the Minister aware that there is a serious hazardous transport problem for pupils leaving that area at the moment?

Mr. R. Burke

If the Deputy is referring to the Kilternan area, I understand the problem. I was personally involved in trying to solve it.

Has the Minister solved it?
