asked the Minister for Health the measures his Department are taking to encourage the practice of breast-feeding in Ireland.

The Department of Health have issued a memorandum regarding infant feeding for the guidance of those who are in a position to advise mothers and others responsible for the feeding of infants. The memorandum indicated that all mothers should be encouraged to breast-feed their infants and it was distributed to the medical and nursing staffs of health boards, voluntary maternity and children's hospitals.

A further memorandum, aimed at encouraging breast-feeding is at present being prepared. This memorandum will be distributed to women attending pre-natal clinics.
