Vol. 305 No. 7

Written Answers. - Arklow Telephone Exchange.

422.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make a progress report on the new telephone exchange in Arklow, County Wicklow; the number of outstanding applications for telephones in the area of the exchange; and the tentative connection and instalment dates.

Based on a forecast by the Commissioners of Public Works for the completion of the building work towards the end of this year, and allowing for the time then required for installation of equipment, it is expected that the new telephone exchange will be in service about the middle of 1980.

There are at present 100 waiting applications at Arklow. Priority applications will be met within a short time of normal engineering working being resumed; non-priority applications will be dealt with when the new exchange is ready.
