Vol. 328 No. 5

Written Answers. - Free Travel.

282.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will expedite the approval of an urgent application for free travel by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who is at present on long duration benefit and who is unable to work.

As the person concerned is under 66 years of age and is not a registered blind person or in receipt of any allowance or pension which would entitle him to free travel I regret that at the moment a free travel pass cannot be issued to him.

He is, however, in receipt of disability benefit for quite some time and I have, therefore, arranged to have his entitlement to invalidity pension investigated. If he is found to satisfy the necessary conditions for invalidity pension and opts for transfer from disability benefit he will then be entitled to a free travel pass and one will be issued to him.
