asked the Taoiseach the total of insured persons who were unemployed as a percentage of insured persons in 1979, 1980 and 1981, inclusive.
Written Answers. - Unemployment Figures.
Data on the percentage unemployed based on the live register are obtained by taking the ratio of the number of insured persons on the live register to the total insured labour force (excluding the agriculture, fishing and domestic service sectors). On this basis the annual average percentages of insured persons on the live register for 1979, 1980 and 1980 and 1981 are as follows:
Year |
Annual average percentage unemployment for insured persons* |
1979 |
9.3 |
1980 |
10.3 |
1981 |
13.5 |
* with the introduction of the PRSI scheme in April 1979, it has not as yet been possible to obtain updated estimates of the currently insured population, and therefore the rates shown are subject to revision at a later date.
