Vol. 350 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Galway Group Water Scheme.

546.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a decision will be made or was made on a water rights extraction order for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway, as the result of an inquiry held in early January 1984; if he will further confirm that the original sanction given to this group to proceed as an independent local group is still in order; if this group can now proceed with their own group water scheme; the total allocation of both water and grants for this group; and if he will make a statement on these matters.

The design of the group scheme referred to has been approved from a technical point of view by my Department and Galway County Council. The council's agreement to the group proceeding with the scheme will depend on my decision in relation to a water rights order submitted by the council. Processing of the issues arising from a public local inquiry held into objections to this proposal has reached an advanced stage and I will give my decision at the earliest possible date. The allocation of grants by my Department for the group scheme must await finalisation of the foregoing matters.
