48.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position in respect of an alternative industry to replace Erin Foods Limited, Mallow, County Cork, which is to close with the loss of 160 jobs commencing in mid-March 1986; if he has an alternative to replace this industry, if so, the number of the existing workforce he will be reemploying; if it will be a food based industry so as to take advantage of the skills and experience of the present workforce; the type of product that will be manufactured; and the source from which the raw materials will be procured.

Limerick East): Discussions are taking place between the sugar company who own the facility and interested parties concerning a replacement industry for the Erin Foods Limited factory at Mallow. As the negotiations are still at a confidential stage I am not in a position to furnish the details requested by the Deputy.
