Vol. 365 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cork Airport.

10.

asked the Minister for Communications if he has received a submission from Aer Rianta concerning the legthening of the runway and other major improvements at Cork airport; and, if so, his attitude to these suggestions.

The adequacy of facilities at the State airports is kept under continuous review by Aer Rianta and my Department so that any necessary improvements can be introduced in good time. During the past three years about £750,000 has been expended on a variety of development works at Cork airport and it is planned to expend about £1.2 million on such works in 1986.

I have received a submission from Aer Rianta proposing an extension to the main runway and the provision of improved navigational aids at Cork airport. The proposal would require expenditure of about £2 million. There are no provisions in this year's Estimates for such expenditure and even if there were the proposal would have to meet the criteria governing capital investment in the public sector.
