Vol. 368 No. 9

Written Answers. - Gort (Galway) Water Scheme.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has as yet determined if compensation will be paid to farmers who objected to the water rights order for Gort regional water scheme; the outcome of his deliberations on this matter; and if he will give an up-to-date report on the progress being made with regard to the planning of Gort regional water scheme.

The submission by Galway County Council of contract documents for the Gort regional water supply scheme together with a certificate confirming that all essential preliminary arrangements have been completed is awaited in my Department.

As to the costs of objections in relation to the public local inquiry into the Gort Regional Water Supply Scheme Provisional Order, 1984, the position is that an application has been submitted to my Department seeking a contribution by the County Council towards those costs. Processing of the application is well advanced and there will be no avoidable delay in its final determination.
