Vol. 369 No. 11

Written Answers. - Appointment of Resident Garda.

164.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will appoint a resident garda to Ballingarry village, Thurles, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The precise arrangements for the policing of particular areas are a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that in the absence of suitable official accommodation at Ballingarry, it is not feasible to arrange for a member to reside there at present. They have also informed me that, during the temporary absence of the garda who is assigned full time to Ballingarry, the area is at present being served by gardaí from Killenaule, supplemented as necessary by assistance from the district headquarters.

At times when Ballingarry station is closed there are, of course, arrangements whereby callers there can contact the district headquarters at Thurles by means of the external radio-telephone, which can be used free of charge at any time of the day or night.
