Vol. 372 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mulrany (Mayo) RTE Reception.

10.

asked the Minister for Communications if his attention has been drawn to the extremely poor quality of RTE television reception to licensed holders in the Mulrany area, County Mayo; the result of surveys carried out by RTE in the locality to improve the reception; the measures, if any, which will now be taken to rectify this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is primarily a matter for RTE. They state that they are aware of the poor quality of television reception in the Mulrany County Mayo area which is due to the nature of the terrain.

RTE state that they plan to install additional equipment at their Clifden transposer by the end of 1987 which should eliminate reception problems in some parts of the Mulrany area. When this equipment has been installed RTE will evaluate the overall situation in Mulrany and decide on the steps needed to further improve reception in the area.

In the meantime RTE state that they would be happy to investigate individual cases and to give advice on making the best use of available signals.
