asked the Minister for Justice the names of the units in the Garda which are being disbanded in the present reorganisation of the force; the rationale for each disbandment; and the alternative arrangements to be made in each case in the future.
Written Answers - Reorganisation of Garda Units.
As I indicated in reply to Questions Nos. 37 and 39 on 19 May 1988, the Garda authorities decided, arising from the ongoing review of Garda structures and procedures, to replace the central Crime Task Force based at the Dublin Metropolitan Area Headquarters at Harcourt Square with separate Task Force units in each of the five Garda divisions of the area.
I am also informed by the Garda authorities that some reorganisation of the investigation unit attached to the technical bureau has taken place. In addition, legal section in Garda headquarters has been disbanded and its functions are now divided between crime branch and training and research branch. The Garda authorities consider that these changes in organisation are in the interests of a more efficient and effective use of resources.
