I wish to announce for the information of the Dáil:
(1) that, having informed the President that Dáil Éireann had approved my nomination of Deputy Michael Smith to be a member of the Government, the President today appointed him accordingly;
(2) that today, I (a) assigned the Department of Finance to Deputy Albert Reynolds (b) terminated the assignment of the Department of Industry and Commerce to Deputy Albert Reynolds and assigned that Department to Deputy Ray Burke (c) terminated the assignment of the Department of Energy to Deputy Ray Burke and assigned that Department to Deputy Michael Smith.
(3) I also intend to nominate Deputy Liam Alyward for appointment by the Government as Minister of State at the Department of Energy.
