Question:

208 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice the overall percentage increase in each category of court fee in Ireland over the last 20 years; and the way in which this compares with the rate of inflation over the same period.

Between February 1970 and February 1990 the consumer price index increased by 683.5 per cent.

It is not possible to make a valid comparison for all categories of fees between 1970 and 1990 because of changes made over the years in the constituent elements of fees orders. The following, however, are figures for the more important items which can be validly compared:
