Vol. 404 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - 75th Anniversary of 1916 Rising.

Bernard Allen

Question:

2 Mr. Allen asked the Taoiseach if he will outline the Government's plans to commemorate and celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

This matter is under consideration and an announcement will be made shortly.

Will the Taoiseach ensure that all the local authorities will celebrate the 1916 Rising in an appropriate way, thereby acknowledging the vital role of the 1916 Rising in launching Ireland's fight for freedom in this century? By doing this we will fully honour the people who sacrificed their lives at that time because there has been an attempt to erode the importance of that event in recent years.

Yes, I will take that suggestion on board.
