Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Toxic Waste Disposal Policy.

Liam Kavanagh

Question:

57 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline Government policy on toxic waste disposal.

The environment action programme referred to the economic as well as environmental advantages of clean technologies and low waste production processes; it stated that such developments would be promoted and assisted.

In addition, the action programme declared that it was imperative that sophisticated and safe methods of disposal for hazardous wastes are provided in this country. In this connection, the action progamme stated that the Government proposed to ensure the provision of a central hazardous waste incinerator.
I would also refer to the reply to Question No. 78 of 6 February 1991, (Official Report, Volume 404, No. 7, column 1841).
