Vol. 414 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Sector Pay Increases.

Tony Gregory

Question:

37 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline (a) the amount which the public sector pay increases are expected to cost in 1992, (b) the proportion of the sum which it is estimated will return to the Exchequer by way of income tax, PRSI and superannuation in 1992 and (c) the proportion of the sum which it is estimated will return to the Exchequer by way of indirect taxes.

As regards (a) and (b) of the question, I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 3 December 1991 to Question No. 115.

It is also impossible to estimate, with any degree of accuracy the amount of expenditure on pay increases that would return to the Exchequer via indirect taxes, and superannuation deductions from the staff involved.
