Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Liability for Defective Products Legislation.

John Bruton

Question:

165 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the implications for farmers, as food producers, of recent moves towards strict liability for product defects.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the Liability for Defective Products Act, 1991, which gives effect in Irish law to EC Directive 85/374/EEC. Primary agricultural products which have not undergone initial processing are not subject to the provisions of that Act.
