Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Assessment Service Requirements

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

420 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if he intends to (a) provide a wider and more indepth means of assessment and (b) increase the number of assessment centres, for children in need of residential care, as a result of a court order; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that the scope and quality of the existing assessment service is fully adequate to meet current needs.

While the current level of provision for assessment is considered adequate to meet existing demand, the question of increasing the number of assessment places available is kept under constant review in consultation with other relevant authorities.
